Hello Alek77, I have three of these bottles - each a variation of time and molding methods. The ring on the bottom is a pontil mark like cyberdigger said. The important thing to realize is that this pontil mark is the result of glass left on a blow pipe from a previously blown same bottle. When it was cut off the previous bottle the blow pipe was laid by the side of the glory hole in the furnace to keep it hot. When the next bottle was blown and ready to be empontilled the assistant to the bottle maker heated the old glass and then stuck it to the bottom of that next bottle so the finish glass could be applied to the cut off neck and tooled to the neck of this new bottle.

When you look at the finish on your bottle you can see what is called sloppy glass under the finish, which was pushed down and left there by the wooden forming tool that shaped the desired finish on the new bottle.

Looking at the shoulders you can see the mold seams of the two part mold system used to shape the bottles form and lettering which was chisseled in the panels of the bottle.

It is a nice pontiled med bottle and a mouth blown golden oldie. So thanks for showing it to us. RED Matthews
