Went back to the dump where I had found lots a broken water bottles....and I dug and found a whole one finally!!!
Here are a few pics of the days find...
Whole bottle shot...stands about 20 inches tall probably......My dad thinks it was for whiskey?? I think water....there are no marks or numbers on this bottle...Any ideas on how old...if more pics are needed let me know!!!
Found a handful of these little ceramic corks they were still attached to some bottles with the wire...I'm very curious about this bottle...I think it may be my oldest bottle find.....hoping anyway. Right after finding this bottle we got booted off the property for trespassing but ended up making friends with our new neighbor and getting permission....I recognized him as one of the local bar owners...guess he's had trouble with people continuing to dump on his property while he's trying to clean it up and build a house....I'm really glad he didn't have a gun like he threatened at first!! But all worked out in the end! []
Those are Hutter stoppers like it says on the bottom one in the last photo. It had a rubber seal that the knob on the bottom pushed through and held the rubber in place. The crown top bottle,(like the glass sodas lip),were first used in 1892.You have a 'blob top' bottle there.I think your spot is late 1800`s to TOC(turn of the Century),but could be older. The more you dig,the more you will know!Without embossment it may be hard to tell what it held.Maybe someone on here has one like it. Keep us posted and Good luck!
sounds like you guys had one heck of an adventure... i believe there is someone in the forum who can help you make or show you how to repair those closures and one should fit on those type of bottles ... the ceramic tops with the replaced wires could be trade able..and would hide that chip on the lip of that bottle for display purposes. and it wouldn't hurt to bribe the land owner with a bottle with a closure
Hey Woodswalker
Looks like the type of bottles used by local bottlers of that era 1880's-1900's. Probably contained soda water, beer or even ginger ale.
Don't think it would contain whiskey. Check out some old business directories from South Haven, and you'll probably come across a bottler.
Hope this helps.
