Haven't been here for a while, found this tile yesterday in the river, does anyone have any idea how old it might be or what it might have been used for. Any information gratefully received.
I don't know that I would call this a tile. It appears to be a piece of Terrazzo, or decorative concrete aggregate. It looks quite river tumbled to me.
It is most definitely river tumbled, and it is certainly not resin! I checked your suggestions and I think you might be right but still can't date it, because it seems it has been going since roman times. I live in South Wales UK and we know that there was a lot of roman activity in this area, in fact we have the remains of a roman bridge on our bit of river where the tile (or what ever it is was found) I'm not saying that it is from that era, it could be from anytime but it is definitely older than the 1970's and it is quite heavy. Thanks for your help, I might take it to a museum for their opinion, you never know it just might be ancient!
i would agree with surface, there is alot of tarazzo floors down here and thats what it looks like. however that is an unusual piece being that thick and all.
