Hello All! I recently dug this in SF, CA, and am trying to get the correct shape name, and more info. It is 3 1/2" X 2 1/2", has no embossing, one wire groove, and a 1/2" channel from top to bottom (both ends are the same) going all the way through the middle with no inside threads. It looks pressed into a mold, seams on both sides, and one end has little chips where the excess was knocked off. The color is purple, leaning toward puce. I've seen a lot of insulators, but never one in this shape. The site is 1840's through 1890's material. Help me out!

Damn! That's a nice find! That particular style is called a Threadless Egg and the style was quite common in the 1850 to 1860 period. It is probably worth $2200+ in that color depending on the condition. Let me know if you want to sell it!

Yep, that's the one. I finally found it listed as a CD700. Mine has a little damage, a shallow long chip on one end and a ding on the side. Attached is a picture of the damage. I have a lot of requests for this one, and as I am primarily a bottle collector, it is for sale. Serious offers only please.

That chip is a shame, but still a rare insulator. I sent you a PM.

The long shallow chip and ding are the only damage. No cracks. There are some small production chips where the excess glass was pressed into the seams of the mold and then knocked off. Send me an email, and I'll send you all the photos showing condition. This applies to all other collectors with offers.
