I found this bottle in my collection. The box it was in say's it was dug in Pasadena, Ca from an area called the Arroyo Seco. Dumps there went way back......

It appears to be a food jar. Possibly a mustard. Something tells me it is French.

Embossed"

D & H D/ Depose

It has a pontil (improved????) and is VERY light aqua. Any info on origin/worth/scarcity would be much appreciated.

BA, you have a mustard. I couldn't find that particular maker in Zumwalt's book but it is definately a mustard. I would say a French import. I'm not sure about the bottom. It's not like any pontil I have seen. To me it looks more like an 1860's-1880's bottle. Sorry I don't have more info. Kelley

That looks like a sand pontil. Nice bottle, I like the embossing font.

Hi BA,

Zumwalt does have an olive or capers bottle embossed DESECAUX & H. DUFOUR/BORDEAUX Says commonly exported from France to US. Bet this is the same D & H.D. on your mustard bottle. Most spice companies dealt in several products. That's my guess.

That bottle is shown in Zumwalt's. Says possibly Josuah Davenport NY CITY 1851-55 also says possibility of foreign import ,as well. So who knows. Have to get a labelled one I guess.[:D]

DEPOSE (French) on your bottle I have heard is the same as registered on American bottles.

Hey BA, in french Depose has three meanings.

1. To throw out. {verb}
2. To reuse. { noun }
3. A type of enameled art. { slang }

Take your pick. Nice piece of art buy the way.[:)]
