Welcome to a wonderful hobby Penny. Love the Jumbo, and the stoneware. I believe that the white stoneware is considered a poreclain lined stoneware storage jar. The inside is real white and slick compared to the rough porous outside. The liner kept liquids from seeping into the porous stoneware. I've always considered these to be the fore-runner of the modern thermos. Not sure hold old it is and believe that they were used well into the 30's. Hope this helps.
