Found this today, thought it was a canning jar, but it ain't. So what is it. Because of the eyes in the lid, I'm thinking something hung off the lid in suspension in the liquid that stained the inside of the vessel. The bottom is very clear glass. The clamp is iron. The lid has a patent date of June 11, 1895. The black rubber gasket is probably original to the jar. Pressed glass jar with very fine sanding of the top to make the seal. I'm calling it my super secret scientific Sunday surprise until I find out what is really is. It is about 10" tall in total, 4" across the base and the side glass is about a quarter inch thick. Scott
