I love these old jars for some reason. This one has some size to it. It is 8 and 1/2 inches tall and has a tooled topper. Olive Amber in color and tooled outward rolled lip. Open pontil on bottom. Still not sure what glasshouse it (they) come from. Also, Red said these are colonial, though I believe they to be more Federal era, though I would love to hear more on origin and date or origin. Thanks.Joel

Well I don't know everything. Food storage jars were very important in the early American home. There hard to find, but they show up at country bottle sales. I am mainly into applied handles on early jug type bottles right now. Especially those that were blown in pasted molds to remove the mold seams. The body of good ones was tapered to help lift out the turned glass container. It is interesting to study the turned vertical lines in the necks of the bottles. I just can't find many of them. Here is a new one for the collection. It doesn't have a top but the price was under $10. Someone named Apothehutch came on the site and said these were reproductions. I would like to hear more about that. These are not reproductions but authentic Early Americana! Would love to hear more from this person on this issue.Joel

They are definitely not fakes, you have a nice growing collection of these early utility jars! Very crude and bubbly! [;)]

Thank you people. It is great owning them but its better to share them. I have quite a collection of, well, virtually, everything and they just sit here and collect dust, except those under glass. It is nice to share them with people who appreciate it. I wish I had the money and could open a glass museum. I would do it.I have three kids and about eight years ago, it was pretty well determined that I would die of cancer. I did not and after which, I realized I had very little in the way of inheritance to leave my children. I had hoped one of them may get bitten by the bottle bug along with me and be as excited about glass as I am. Not so. I figure they will probably sell them off after I am gone. The collection is theirs to do as they see fit. I told them to come here and you all would help them liquidate. Thanks for looking.Joel
