old jar?

Finally i found something today! Don't know if this is anything good and it isnt a bottle but i guess it would be classified as china, but i thought I'd post it because my step dad thinks this is a type of old jar that was around before glass jars were used

You might notice the imprinted letters in the bottom of the jar but they were to smooth to make out. I tried putting a piece of paper over it and rubbing pencil ontop of it was still to smooth. suggestions?

That type of container was used up until around 1900. I am not sure when they were first used but I would guess 1860s or 70s.

So i thought this was my most worthless piece but ends up to be one of the oldest

They used in this order mainly from Pre-1900 all brown crocks. From 1890-1910 or so they made brown and white. From 1900 or so-1930 they made all white stoneware crocks. That is a rough timeline for later stoneware but it generally assumes that order in colors.
