Old Whale Oil burner??

Had this awhile it is small shaped like a small gord and is three piece mold. Short and round and mold seams stop under a top which has about 1/2 ' turn ground into glass.
Bottom says made in USA Pat Aug 8 ?5. (? mark is for a number not readable because a bubble covers it(Number). Anyone can come in range of that year.
