It is a nice bottle but it could have come from any number of glass works in New York state where it was found.Clyde,Albany,Utica anywhere in New York State they are not always Stoddard. The bottle is somewhat a common slick. The opening bid should have been about 75.00s and it would be sitting now at either that price or about a hundred.
Back to you cyberdigger, I too do not really relate to the 'closed pontil'. I do not have it in my "Glass Collectors Glossary", nor do I have it in my blog on Pontil Systems. If any one has book reference or knowledge of the process to create a pontil like this - your assistance would be appreciated. RED Matthews
Regarding this eBay listing, I have sent two questions to the seller so far. One regarding the HAND WHITTLED MOLD - Da? and one regarding the Closed Pontil. The guy must have a different book than I have read.
I looked at the picture of the bottles bottom and couldn't identify what it shows. RED Matthews
