Very cool story and post. Wish you had some bottle pix to go with it :) but next time for sure.

I've had a couple of times where someone called 911, and the fire dept. shows up, and you wind up feeling guilty for all the unnecessary fuss and worry.
Thanks for the reply Bram,
It turns out that I left my camera in the car after the Packer game and my buddy found it later. He had come down from Alsaka so, it's going to be awhile before I see it because he's got to mail it back. I WILL post pictures sooner or later, though. (If I can find my old digi-cam its sooner. If I can't, its probably later).

As for the 911 calls, they do happen. I have almost always had the authorities be pretty nice about it . . .
I've told this before, but once we were diving in January and we had to break up some ice in the river in order to create open water. We suited up, jumped up and down on the ice and broke chunks off. When the ice broke, naturally, we fell into the water. It was okay because our gear kept us warm. We'd shove the loosened pieces under the ice and climb back up and break more off. But from the roadway (or even the shoreline) it must have looked like a couple of guys were falling into the icy water. The police responded wondering what the heck we were doing. We told them and they were okay with it - but they asked us to let them know ahead of time the next time we try this. Works for me.

or get eaten by Nessie.
BTW Grommit,
There are no Nessies here. Once, I had a little bass take a nip at my wet suit, but I think it was just being territorial (like I swam over its crib or something). I might never have noticed the little nip if I wasn't watching it do it. No blood. No pain. Not even a mark on my wet suit. There are some very large muskies in the lake that I was in but they have little interest in eating humans. Sometimes, they are curious about me, but only rarely do I see them at all. Never, not even once, have they shown me any aggression. I saw one fish in the dim light on Tuesday and I think it was a Sheepshead (like a carp type of fish).

Just bustin your chops Bob. LOL It's refreshing to see people show some concern over somebody they really don't know (even if they went a little overboard.) It's usually the exact opposite for me at work dealing with the general public = disheartening.

The Rock is around 57 degrees, semi clear and at a very LOW level if your interested.

Hey great update on the rock Brian. I am going in on Tuesday for my kast dive of the year. 57 degrees sounds tolerable but its not as fun unsuiting when its cold outside anyway and I have other work to do cleaning around the yard and house before winter.

You are in the medical field, no? What is disheartening about it? I thought folks in smaller towns would generally look out for one another??

What a nice story to share with all of us. Gives me goose bumps....Nice to know that people care and watch out for one and other [;)] I'm with Red, the song is stuck in my head now for the day, but it was worth it reading the heartfelt story ~ More people should be this way ~ Oops, I hope someone else cares enough to do it again for someone else....they just might need help. Like that poor toddler that was hit by several cars and no one wanted to stop. We need to hear more stories like this. Thanks for sharing & have a great day all ~ star ~ *

RE: Oops dive bottle pics.

I found the old camera and it worked okay. Here is the lot. Nothing great but as noted earlier in the post, conditions weren't the best, so it was nice to get something.

Here's the lot of it. 9 pieces of glass, some sunglasses, and an oarlock thingy.

RE: Oops dive bottle pics.

The hutch. Its from John Graf - not a rare example. You can still see the filaments left by the zebra mussels on the lower right. That part must have been exposed. The little filter feeders will grow on anything hard that is exposed.

RE: Oops dive bottle pics.

The reverse side of the hutch complete with THE BEST WHAT GIVES phrase. Not the best english but Mr. Graf stuck with it as a slogan. (BTW - This is the type of bottle that contained the trolley ticket recovered by the Fireman).

RE: Oops dive bottle pics.

The crown beer bottles. Two are from Chicago. They came a long way.
