Outing in the forest,....

This is one of those "Should I really do a post on this?" outings,...but yeah, since I like to see everyone elses adventures,...It was fun,...Fred and I got a later start, but took a cool ride to a neat nearby area of deep forest, and a long stretch of secluded highway with occasional old settlements and abandoned farms along the way. We stopped at a few different places I've found bottles before, and checked them out,...we didn't find bottles, but we did find many indicators of the people who lived and worked at these places generations ago. Penn Digger's out of town, so we decided to do some scouting.

We took our "bear detterents" along, but only saw some deer today....This is the first cellarhole we came to,....Ironically, even though it was in the forest, someone had dug the privys.... (we know who, but cannot really say on here.)

Looks like a fun trip Joe! Tom was here this weekend...dug for a bit in my dump...I am sure he will now agree with me that it is TOTALLY overwhelming. Was nice to meet him. Tom...hope you had a great trip home today...WAY too hot to dig here today anyway!

We spent a little time, looking for the actual dump here, but didn't find it today,....a place this secluded would need more space than just the privyholes to dump in? We moved up the line to the next farm,...this place was huge and well established,...The apple trees still grow big old heirloom apples, and it's a very peaceful and nice spot. The same privydiggers had been here, but we spent a little time poking thru the dump (Enough rocks to build a mill). Here's an early wax sealer mouth we found near one of the five privy holes.

The camera sometimes gets a grain of dirt in the protective lens shutter, and doesn't always open all the way,....This amazingly crude piece of olive glass was about 60 yards below the privys, in the rocky area of this farm....It appears that there was a wagon road, or maybe a spring here and they tossed the glass in with the rocks,shoe leather, ceramics, and iron.

We'll call this one, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
