Question: Why would the Armstrong Cork/Glass Company go to the expense of making approximately twenty reverse-swirl molds if they did not intend to produce thousands of bottles?
Next Question: Is it possible the Armstrong mold making department messed up and actually made twenty of the wrong molds? (I'm using the twenty count for simplicity) My initial response is to say: I find it hard to believe that an established company like Armstrong would make so many molds simply by accident, especially to the point where the molds made it through their system to the bottle making machines and from there to actually producing bottles for distribution.
I agree, I have a hard time believing that there were multiple molds for the Lefty bottle. I can see one wrong mold and making a few hundred bottles with it. But multiple molds, seems odd.
Thanks. Maybe they will have the answer(s) In the meantime, this is to remind us that bottle molds are not simple items to produce but rather are sophisticated works of art requiring the expertise of a true craftsmen/machinist ...
