Went and dug a permission today, its been on my to do list for awhile. The pits are under an addition ot the house, but I figured I probe for a trash pit for something to do. Poked around the small yard and found a huge clump of bricks about 2-3 feet down, and once through that it was solid ash. I couldn't feel any walls or definition, so just started digging where it felt the most promising. Got down to about 4 feet and still hadn't found much. Then I took notice of all the stuff I was digging thru. It was all metal, bricks, chunks of plaster wall and bits of wiring. The wood and bricks were blackened on one side. Oops its a burnt down house, that wasn't on either of my maps. Then I looked at the wall of the house beside the yard. Sure enough the bricks had been damaged and there was a roof line. Rats[] wish I had seen that earlier. Well I dug around some more and about fainted when this showed itself ! I couldn't believe it was intact with no chips or cracks. This is it all cleaned up. Has a F.H. Cowden&son Harrisburg, PA stamp. Proof you just never know. [:D]

ORIGINAL: div2roty

Nice find, too bad it doesn't have one of Cowden's famous blue designs, but it is still great to find a stamped piece of pottery
That is the exact same thought I had when I first seen the Jug
