I picked this up from a shop in Roseville today. From what I've been told it's listed as extremely rare in Miller's book (less then 5 known). Sweet!!! The base has a weird mark I've never seen before too, kinda like a pontil mark but it's not.

That's not from light coming through the neck.

Sorry for the blurryness

They must be bottle brothers.....There almost identical...only not. I'll get some better shots of the base to post.

That's a beautiful bottle Aaron. Was that in that big co-op in Rocklin? I've been meaning to go there for the past few months and kept putting it off. I was even in Roseville 3 times in June and didn't drive the couple miles to go there. I wish I had.

That was an extremely common nickel and dime perfume bottle form.
Never heard of that particular one. What is Miller's book?

I know I've seen the style a thousand time with 5 and 10 cents on them. Never saw one with the word druggist on it till now though. Miller's book, which I really need to get one of, is a book on California embossed druggist and pharmacy bottles. It's the one book I've heard referenced the most when it comes to Cali druggists. Thanks everyone for the replies. I just picked up a nice lot from across town. I'm getting everything together to take pics. I've got a lot of cleaning and picture taking to do now[&:]. At least I get to play with bottles all day[:D].

Interesting bottle that I don't recall seeing before. I have a ton of info on Henry Bowman and his businesses. He started in Sacramento in the 1850s, sold out to R. E. Gogings in 1873 and moved to Oakland. he had three sons, Henry, William and ?. There is no mention of an R. Bowman in the business, but he must have been the previously unnamed son. William, the only son to become interested in the pharmacy, became the president in the late 80s.

Along with other odds and ends, there are several very early pharmacy receipt books floating arount this place. A few examples were removed and pictured here. They are all from the early 1860s, but the prescriptions are difficult to read, being primarily written in Latin. On some, the ink has faded, or the pencil notations are light, but they are of interest to collectors of early drug store bottles.

Thanks for that info. Really cool. It actually does say H. Bowman, not R. Bowman so it must be Henry. That would pretty accurately date this 1870s right.....Wouldn't William Bowman put his name on the bottles after he became president? Thanks again Michael.
