Recycle broken bottles

I have saved 4 or 5 good bottles with the tops busted thinkng that I could somehow turn these into glass tumblers , vases oreven pencil holders. The problem is getting the bottles cut off at the shoulders and some of these have kind of sloping shoulders. Be really neat to get these recycled to be used and to be displayed at the same time. Any ideas as to how to make a square cut on a round cylinder?

i had a kit as a kid from a craft store that did a pretty good job i bet they still
make a varation of them.

back then it had some cutesie (is that a word?) name [8|]and i made all kinds of stuff.

I have cut glass on a wet saw. Same as cutting a piece of tile as long as you keep it cool you should be alright. It will crack the same as Marble when it starts to heat up. Goes for drilling holes also, just keep a steady stream of water on the bit and go slow with a low speed. Practice on some junk glass first.

Wet saw. Score it with a Dremel and snap it, then finish sand it. Diamond blade on an angle grinder works also, but the blades aren't cheap.

You can take a piece of nichrome wire and wrap it around the bottle. Put current through it until it glows red and it will break the glass at that line. Probably helps to score it first.
