I was going to dive in a city river near here yesterday, but I got there and it turned out to be a waist deep stream. I waded waste deep upstream in this poluted river, through a fairly old neighborhood. Yuck.

Found a dump to dig, around 1880-90s. Got a few common bottles but got this cool jar for my troubles

I went back the next day with my son Quincy. What was waist deep to me was shoulder deep for him, but he did it !

Further upstream the day before I was wading in the stream and startled some huge thing in the water which swam off. Turned out to be a Carp. I followed it up further, and found a total of four of these big fish slowly swimming in the muck. They were easily 3 feet long, the biggest fresh water fish I've seen here in New England. I came across them once in the same river last year diving with Kevin.

So when I came back with Quincy, we found them, and tried to catch them with a worm and hook. They ignored the worm, not sure what they were finding in that muck that was more tasty than a Maine earthworm.
We dug the bank for 2 hours. I didnt have my camera. He got a nice tan and yellow mustard pot. A Beauty.
Fun adventure.

Nice find Bram and cool adventuring with your son. Those carp are a site to behold in fresh water streams, a bit startling at first. Here's what my old redbook #9 says about your jar:

#520 C.D. BROOKS / BOSTON (on shoulder)
Closure: Metal cap with attached wire side clamps
Closure value: 20 - 30%
HG Amber $200 & up
they also show a drawing
