Interesting reads Joe. Good stuff. Found this 1846 newspaper ad nicely placed next to a Dr. G.C. Vaughn's ad.
Notice the ad states each bottle has the Doctor's name blown in the glass. Then it states enveloped in a cut of diseased spine. Hmmm I'd like to know more about that.

That would have been one nice bottle. If we read this as , ..wrapped (enveloped) in a pamplet (cut - from a medical journal, etc.) showing a diseased spine, accompanied with full instructions , then it makes more sense to me. Buster
