Hi everyone I haven't posted anything in a few months and wanted to share a few of my new additions will start with this one the others will be posted under new the collections. I hope someone will be able to shed some light on these unusual mold markings on this open pontil clarke's sherry wine bitters. I think Red would be interested in this hope he get to see and comment of it.

Hope to see some of you at the new england show tomorrow

Above the work clarke's is a rectangle with three dots. The rectanlge is embossed into the the bottle and the dots are slightly raise like a glass rivets that use to hold something like a label in place. I know that some of these bottles had the price embossed on the bottle has anyone ever seen one with maybe a metal stamped label that may of been held with this glass dot rivets. What do you think I may totally wrong with my idea. look forward to hearing what you guys think

That's a terrific bottle, a good example of a repaired mold. I'm not sure but I suspect that that is a pretty scarce variant of the prolific CLARKE'S. If no one else gives the information, I will look in my Bitters books when I have the time and inclination.

Helllo and I am glad I got here. I would like to see a better picture or a rubbing but it is obviously a mold repair. The dots are usually vent drillings in the mold metal, but I couldn't make them out. I have round ones, rectangular ones, and several other things that have been done. To me they are bottlemysteries that I like to evaluate. I trust you have been to my homepage. I am on this forum almost every day and do it because I am too ofd to do much else. When the sun goes down a bit I will try to look at your pictures again. RED Matthews

That's a fine looking bottle. I doing nothing more than guessing, but I'd say if they were having to change prices fairly often, then they just did away with having the price embossed in the glass. Sort of like the gas stations nowadays having the prices on porcelain enamel signs.

Well I got back just now and can see the dots but the actual outline of the inserted metal is hard to see. I can't imagine what damage except someone dropping another piece of mold equipment in the cavity nicking it bad, would require an insert of that size. Please try to make a rubbing. I saved the pictures for later study. These mold repair jobs were not an easy project. Nice bottle though. RED Matthews
