I bought this local bottle at the Brick show today. It's a slug plated crown top soda from Clifton, but it's much newer than I thought when I bought it. I assumed, because it was a slug plate and had the "THIS BOTTLE NOT TO BE SOLD" embossing, that it was from the 20's or before. I was wrong. As it turns out, this bottle is from 1947! I know this because it was made by the Glenshaw glass company, and because the lip is embossed with an "S", I can use their date codes to figure out the date.

Above slug plate: "REGISTERED". In slug plate: "SILVER SPRINGS/ BOTTLING WORKS/ CLIFTON, N.J.". Below slug plate "CONTENTS/ 7 FLUID OUNCES"

Coincidentally, the base says "1947" as well!

Any idea why this bottle used slug plate embossing so late? I thought most if not all companies had transitioned to ACLs by this point.

I have no idea, personal preference, low production numbers, they already had the mold? Many dairy bottles were still made that way.
I can tell you there address in 1925 was listed at 24 Rosalie Ave.[:)]
