well when i was at work today i was considering on stopping by an old farmer house just down the road to see who owns the old house on the hill thats abandoned . I wasnt too sure if i was or wasnt until the work day ended and it was eating at me who owned the house so i could go look for bottles with permission . Now i have to jump back a month or so to tell you this other stuff i have been researching that relates to this old house i didnt know about. First off part of my research was trying to locate an old settlement that dates before 1878 that my neighbour had told me about and said it was gone but some remains are still there when he last seen it . I asked him when that was and it was 20 years ago he said . Well to make a long story shorter there is no current visible roads to this place as you can imagine ,and the last people that lived there left the place in 1914 ill get to how i found this out in a minute. Now back to today tuesday may 8th ,after work i stopped into an old farmstead and spoke with a man who was out in the yard and asked if he knew who owned the house on the hill and he said " well that would be me" so i then asked permission to go look for old bottles by the house and also for permission to wander over the property as well looking for bottles and he said "sure go right ahead, the cans and junk are over the embankment by the house " off i went for a 20 minute walk that took 2 hours . i looked over the embankment and found a minards liniment (bottle on the right side of picture)then found an assortment of other bottle pieces etc . After a bit i decided to walk up the other side of the embankment and went throught the woods and at a distance of roughly 300 feet i found a few cans poking out of the ground so i dug that up and found the bottles from left to right 1.BUCKLEYS WHITE RUB,BUCKLEYS COUGH SYRUP, KIST ORANGE SODA,FRESCA SODA, SPRITE SODA and last MINARDS LINIMENT. i returned to the farm to get ready to head home when the old man stopped the tractor and we got to chatting and i had showed him the old bottles , which im sure gave him memorys of a time long gone (he is 85) and smiled at the bottles . Well during our chat i asked him if he had any knowledge of an old settlement somewhere way out in the woods and he said YES as my jaw dropped. He then told me one of the familys that lived there was his and if id like to go there its 3 1/2 miles back in the woods and the old road to get there is at the back of his property in the far left corner . he said "its all grown up now but im sure you can see the way the road goes by looking at the ground " he then told me that the last people that lived there left in 1914 and move to a place up country about 10 miles from here (his place) . he also mentioned that there were about 10 or more houses quite close together and gave me an idea how to find them. So i dare say ill be heading there soon as possible . i can post a picture of todays bottles because i took the picture at home , but i will post pictures of the old house and the incredable view from there as soon as i can get them (day or two) thanks for reading .
