Been hunting this pre civil war home site for 2 months, dug 6 or 8 holes, (can't remember how many), when at long last something whole! Got a late start on a soft probe. Didn't feel anything other than a slightly softer area, right next to a stone lined cistern I dug a month ago with nothing more than a hand full of clay marbles. So I get started on this spot and run into a mammoth root. Tried to dg a root canal with no luck....more roots! Found a brick edge that became circular. followed it down after a rootectomy to about the 5' level. Took about 4 hours wrestling with roots et all before hitting a nice night soil level. Started digging to my right and after finding only fertilizer, I turned to my left, as if the bottle was crying, "Dig HERE!" Within 30 seconds I uncovered what looked like a fancy greenish pottery shard. I quickly realized it was glass, not pottery. It was getting late and I had already made a promise to the bottle goddess I would quit after one good bottle. Sadly, I left my camera home so I only have pics after the fact.........

Has a great lean to it with crud in the glass of the neck with some slight greenish swirling....the broken one was dug higher in the clay cap, giving me hope and energy! Embossed E R Durkee/ New York. Flask embossed with a large "C", a GIX-25 (I believe) listed as relatively scarce.....I'LL TAKE IT! I was true to the bottle goddess and quit for the night and returned before 7 am the next morning after a restless night wondering what else was down there, like a little kid wondering what was under the Christmas tree on Christmas eve.......

Got to digging right off and made a new friend with the little neighbor. She came over and wanted to help right off.....might have to replace my regular bucket man! She has quite a pull!

At the 7' level took on water. Probe showed 2 more feet to search, however after much mucking and water buckets dumped, found only one chipped little puff. Found a great greenish "DR A Rodger's Liverwart Tar" from Cincinnati with huge open pontil. A rather thick bottle, I was amazed as usual how a delicate scroll flask survives and the thick med dies the death of a thousand wounds. Got enough to glue together about 60%, which I will do next rainy day.....

If there's only one, but a great one, you got to be happy with that! What's the C stand for?

I hear the sound of distant thunder, so........here is the glued Liverwort......what a name! and Canchalaqua??? WHAAAT?........And I don't know what the C stands for on the scroll flask. They didn't expound. There was one listed as rare with the letter A as well. I was guessing Cunningham until I saw the one with the A, so who knows? someone I am sure.....Jack
