Here's a cuspidor for you all in Red Ware. I think it's got a buckeye pattern on it.

RE: Spittoon

I've always liked cuspidors even though they are just a rung above "Thunder-Mug" on the scale of House Hold wares. It takes one heck of a nice one to bring decent money, even though it can be a rare type of patten or material they are made from. I like the Feminine ones made for the ladies. It's kind of odd thinking about a woman spitting in a bowl. This one was painted black and decorated with flowers sometime later. I think it originally was just plain Redware with nice pattern. As long as I have it here does anyone know the pattern. it looks like Buckeye Leaves on the branchs and there are some kind of fruit on the end of them.

RE: Spittoon

Here's a spittoon I got in my redware collection. I'm not sure if it was on this site I posted pics before , or not? Zane, since you brought up the subject of redware spittoons I figured I post it. If any body recognizes the building on the on the front let me know.

More like a US mint building.
Nice toons guys and I agree with Zane.
They are just barely one rung up.

RE: Spittoon

I believe it was ryan who actually scratched this one out. I brought it home and he didn't mention wanting it in the picks so I just assume it's a gift. It's got a large piece missing out of the lip so it's not worth anything monetarily but I think it will look nice in the flower garden along with all of my Thunder-Mugs and rusty Enamel Ware.
There will come a day when we will wish we saved all of these whole but damaged pieces. They are a quickly vanishing piece of history. As you can see from this photo I don't throw much away. I am planning on a thorough Spring Cleaning to make room for better finds. Does anyone want my shard and sherd collection? I also have many common but collectible fruit jars and milks and other dollar bottles I want rid of.

RE: Spittoon

I'd like the shards of flasks, bitters, and pontiled bottles. Also stamped or cobalt-decorated stoneware.
