Thanks everyone for the comments ...

Morb ~ You're right about the so called mirrored backing of the word Squirt. It's a goldish color with the rest of the imaging overlaying it. Plus everything is thicker with a slight lip around the border where the dark blue meets the tin plate. I'm convinced it's porcelain, (maybe) ? [:)]

RBM ~ It would be cool if someone came up with a 1939ish bottle. I suspect it may be their first. But likely not too different (if at all) from the 1941 example that Morb posted.

Waskey ~ I was thinking the same thing about the label paint. Many of their earlier bottles seem to have the same fading/deterioration problems similar to those of 7up. Maybe it has something to do with "yellow" / "red" pigments ???

Thanks for the post SPB,
I find them from time to time and I just thought that it was a big national soda. I had no idea that there was such a direct link to Milwaukee.

Morb ~

I've looked around but so far have been unable to find a photo of the "cut-out" Squirt bottle you mentioned. Do you have one, or a link to a photo? Thanks.

blobbottlebob ~

How'z it going "cousin?" You're welcome. Yah, I'm kinda stoked about Squirt now too. I never gave it much notice before, but intend to keep my grapefruit eyes "peeled" for more of their bottles ... especially the earlier ones like Morb posted. By the way ... do you or anyone else happen to know why they call it Grapefruit? It's just about the farthest thing away from a grape that I can think of.

{Morb Quote} They first used the 1950's trademark in 1947, so you have a range from 1937 to 1947 for your sign.

I totally accept that my little sign is probably from 1937 to 1947 ... and to narrow it down any closer than that is likely impossible without having a Squirt specialist examine it. (And I am in no way suggesting that Morb isn't dead on). But you can imagine my excitement when I came across a similar sign in one of my collector books. Obviously they are different - mine measures 5" x 7" - the one in the book measures 18 3/8" x 14" ... plus there are other obvious differences. But what caught my eye was the use of the word "Drink" and the uncanny likeness of the 'splash' ... which, if you compare them side-by-side, are almost identical. As for the 1941 date listed in the book, I will just have to take the author's word on that, and have no logical reason to challenge it. I'm sure they used this same type of advertising up until 1947ish when they changed the word 'SQUIRT' itself to all capital letters. I just thought I'd share my findings in the name of research. Thanks again Morb. [:)]

I just realized with the aid of a magnafying glass that the copyright date of 1941 is on the lower right corner of the book sign. [:-]

Tgrady ~

I agree. I have always liked those so called 'swirly' bottles. I believe Squirt has a patent on the design just as Coke has a patent on their 'hobbleskirt.' I'm not sure when they switched to the 'curvy shield' for the label, but believe it was in the 1960s. It is the bottle style I remember when I was about 12 years old in 1964. Squirt is one of my favorite (always in the frig) drinks along with Coke and A&W Root Beer ... Oops! I forgot 'Faygo' is my new favorite brand of root beer ... but it's too dang expensive for my 'taste.'

Thanks,

SPB
