Morb ~ You're right about the so called mirrored backing of the word Squirt. It's a goldish color with the rest of the imaging overlaying it. Plus everything is thicker with a slight lip around the border where the dark blue meets the tin plate. I'm convinced it's porcelain, (maybe) ? []
RBM ~ It would be cool if someone came up with a 1939ish bottle. I suspect it may be their first. But likely not too different (if at all) from the 1941 example that Morb posted.
Waskey ~ I was thinking the same thing about the label paint. Many of their earlier bottles seem to have the same fading/deterioration problems similar to those of 7up. Maybe it has something to do with "yellow" / "red" pigments ???
