Dug a deep, water filled, larger than average size privy on Sunday.
Mostly broken bottles, stoneware, and other ceramics.
Three embossed medicines, one squat soda, and one Home Rule white clay pipe came home with me. Good Digging to you! Jim

The meds are all embossed Nichols & Townley - Druggist - Newark, N. J. They are late 60's early 70's.

The probing was tough as the ground was frozen. I use a 50 pound breaker bar with a point on the end and bash holes in the ground then probe. A few along the back, then a few up the sides. It works well. jim

That looks like some good potential. How deep were you down? Winter privy digging is something I've never done, it has to be a ball buster to do it, but if you hit it big, it must be really rewarding. Did you have a map that showed where the privy was, or were you poking holes through the ice?
