So - now that the find of a lifetime post has died down a little bit, I figure it's a good time to post this.[:D]

I have an old school friend who is a chiropractor and at a flea market this fall, I found a 1940's postcard from a Chiropractic School, so, thinking of him, I picked it up and asked if he wanted it. His dad went to that school, so he said he'd like to give it to his dad for Christmas. I dropped it off a few days before Christmas, and, to my surprise, he walked into another room, and came back with a bottle for me... one I couldn't even identify... until I looked at the bottom. He found it at the family farm. He's not a digger, but he's asked his dad to let him dig there, and even he can't get the ok on that.... anyway... I really know very little about these and am hoping someone can tell me more. I've seen some posts on here about them... someone has a bunch of the glass stoppers he found diving, but I can't find this bottle anywhere on the internet.

The bottle reads RYBERG PECKHAM & CO
264 DIVISION ST
NEW YORK

The bottom reads:
MADE BY ALBERTSONS STOPPER
JOHN MATTHEWS NEW YORK
PATD OCT ?? 1864

I assume October 11, but I can't really read the 11. Also, the 4 in 1864 is backwards.

Hi Kate, that post is amazing. Eye candy overload!
This is what your looking for sort of.

And the stopper is a variant of some sort. They have it as a Matthews but Albert Albertson is also on the patent.

Red Matthews may be interested in this or know. I think it's something of interest at this time.
Also, Sosadandbeers may like to add the info and picture.

Sandchip - He knew nothing about it and dug 1/2 of it out of the ground (apparently I've inspired him a little). He seemed pleased that I didn't know what kind of bottle it was when he handed it to me. He liked stumping "the bottle expert".... I clearly am not, but friends think I am. Hope his dad liked the post card.

Cowseatmaize - I agree about the other post... that's how I ended up back here;... I was telling my poor computerless digging partner about it yesterday!
If the other 2 don't stumble upon this post in a day or so, I'll pm them.
