So Kevin, What did your friend decide. l have three similar handled jars and I knew one was a repro - but I paid 129 for it ar a bottle show. These pontil marks are sort of phoney because they just don't look like three original punty rod contacts. RED Matthews

You often cannot go by pontil scars, as much of our modern glass is made the very same way that an old jug would have been made. witness for example all of the pontilled stuff that you can buy from Crate and Barrell, or Home Goods stores, or Pier One imports. If the piece doesn't have honest base wear on the bottom, and a few nicks dinks or other indications of passing time, it is probably a repro , or new piece............
