Found the large cent at the 1860's site. The center one has me baffled. Is it british possibly. Used Louisana hot sauce to clean the goop off.

My Son said it looks like gold too! I have a 10K to 18K acid test. I will try the 10K first.

Well, I put a drop of 10K acid on the middle coin, in a area where it is clean metal. Sat there about 6 seconds and nothing, then started bubbling a little, left a light tarnish, a delayed reaction! So the results seems to indicate a low grade gold content. Maybe!

2nd one would not be that deformed if it was low grade gold unless in a fire


if its gold its 22-24kt..sure looks gold

If you go and buy the book The Instant Coin Collector: Everything You Need to Know to Get Started Now by Arlyn G. Sieber you will find it on page 230: Chapter 26

The title of it in the book is "Braided Hair"

The date is 1840-1857
The designer is Christian Gobrecht
It is 100% copper and the value is $40.00-$80.00
Diameter 27.5 and weight is 10.89 oz.
