The mornings are starting to chill & that first cup or two of coffee is a grand way of kicking myself out the door. A short drive later and I'm in a sort of Nirvana...that special place in the Northern California Delta and that special place inside of me that thrills at the sight of old glass.

I have been revisiting areas that I have searched over the past 30 years. The easy pits are gone. Now one has to be inventive. Ah, a trait I know so well. This last weekend I drove to a site the Cacarpetbagger explored years before. Steve scored a wonderful early clay pitcher here.

I began to search it's perimeter and immediately happened upon a hint of glass, an a odd shape. As I dusted the slight layer of sand away, a rush of excitement ran through me. You all know the feeling. Will it or won't it be whole. The color, my gracious the color ~ cranberry. A little more persistence and pop it is mine. I marvel at it's weight. It is but a breath. I marvel at it's satin sheen and it's Victorian elegance. The top has been sheared from a blow pipe and resembles a burst top ink. I have found these little bedside lamps before, usually in pieces. How this little jewel survived all of these years just amazes me.

I found a few other items that day but really nothing of mention. They rode home in the back of the car while this piece was admired at each possible moment. Yes I was a distracted driver.

A tip of the hat...to the bottle gods. And a tip of the hat to you.....may your journeys be fruitful. I hope you enjoy the pictures below.

Dugout this story is for you.

Gorgeous discovery! An intact lamp reservoir is uncommon enough, but that color man... Sweetness.
