Hello! I've recently started antiquing with my parents and came across tons of beautiful vintage Ball jars. I love the shabby chic look and they blend into that style so well! Anyhow, I cam across a half-gallon Ball jar yesterday and thought it was fabulous so I bought it. I've been trying to figure out if it is real or a reproduction. The underscore is not attached to the word Ball which I believe dates it at 1893-1896 if it is real. Beneath "Ball" it states the typical "Mason Patent 1858". The embossing is not thick at all so it's very hard to see. Any information on this jar would be greatly appreciated!

The good news is that aqua Ball jars have not been reproduced...yet. So this one is authentic, but the bad news? Ball used a lot of their molds until they just plain wore out - thus your faintly embossed jar. Good strong embossing would bring a better price, but you can rest assured you have the real thing. -Tammy
