dug this is san jose california today. i don;t know much about pot lids. can anyone give me an idea as to rarity or value? also dug a holloway's oinment jar.

This lid is relatively common but also very desirable because of it,s design and would be worth around $250 - 300 if perfect but if put on ebay who knows as you can get a couple of bidders who won,t give up. Hope this helps

A nice clean one like that with matching base should go $350 - 400 US. There is another of these with a boarder variation that goes slightly better again.
