Well, the site that has produced so well for over 2-1/2 years is finally winding down. I intend to spend more time in town digging the elusive 1870s and before privies. This site has been good to me but it's time to broaden my horizons. Will I go back? You betcha, just not as much as I have been in the past.

Here's a few from yesterdays dig. I feel that the best bottle was this 1/2 pint whiskey from Danville - a 1st for me.

I can't figure how this was made and when. It sure is a strange looking bottle simply embossed Victor Depau New York on the side panels. The bottom almost seems pontiled possibly a sand pontiled or one that has been refired. Was this also a snap case mold? I really am not sure.

Here's one for Gunther. Although a very common Teething Syrup fro Babes, it still is a Dr. Fahrney From Hagerstown, MD

Here's a brass thingy with an 1891 date. It just popped out into my hand. The only other bottle of note is one that I have in the tumbler, a Keller soda from Charlottesville, VA. They sell real good and it is ony the 2nd whole one that I have ever found.

You never totally abandon a dump in my opinion [:D] You always end up going back and finding one or two you may have forgotten or may have left there. Good luck with the privies. I have yet to dig one but where you are there's bound to be plenty for you!

Thanks Mad. It's been a great learning experience for me and now for my son. I feel that I know the 1890s era bottles pretty good by now. How many good bottles? Too many to count. I feel that all bottles are good just some are better than others. I look forward to digging the earlier ones. Wouldn't it be great to find and dig a pontiled dump. I know that they're out there. Just gotta find them. In the meantime, a pontiled privy will work just fine. Stay tuned for further adventures.
