Even though not every Moxie bottle made by the American Bottle Co. has clearly identifiable base marks, this one on eBay has both ...

A.B. CO. & 29N

Which adds just a little more credence to my N26 bottle.

Reynoldsville Bottling Works / Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a Moxie bottle (other than my 26N) by this bottler, but I did find some Whistle ads and a Whistle bottle of theirs. Even though I plan to continue researching this bottler, the main thing at this point is to establish that they were an actual bottler. The link is to one of their bottles on eBay. The newspaper ad is from 1921. I believe they changed their name from Reynoldsville Bottling Works to Whistle Bottling Co. at some point, but I'm not sure when.

The most important questions that still remain to be answered are ...

1. Was my 7 Oz. Moxie bottle made in 1926?
2. Was it made by the American Bottle Co?
3. Is the ACL genuine or fake?
4. If genuine, when was the ACL added and by who?

Stay tuned and we might find out after my bottle arrives in about a week.

"exclusively"

This is one of the best clues so far / from the 1923 ad I posted earlier

According to USPS Tracking my Reynoldsville Moxie bottle is supposed to arrive Saturday. So we'll see what's what with it then and whether its a real ACL or a fake. But regardless of the ACL question, the seller stated that he is about 90% certain that the base mark is 26N. As we know, the N stands for the American Bottle Co. plant in Newark, Ohio. If the number is a 26, it stands for 1926.

As we know, the American Bottle Co. Newark plant was acquired by Owens Illinois Glass in 1929. According to numerous sources, including this 1930 newspaper article, the Newark plant remained in operation at least as late as January of 1930. According to the 1932 article, the Newark plant closed in July of 1930.

Stand by and I will explain shortly where I'm going with this. For now I just wanted to establish the 1930 date for the Newark plant.

Note: The 1930 article is in three parts ...

I contacted this seller and still waiting to hear from them about this Moxie 7 Oz. bottle that appears to have an 30N on the base. It ends today so I don't know if I will hear from them or not. I don't intend to buy it, and just wanted to record it as a possible 1930 Moxie bottle made at the Newark plant that was still in operation at the time. I will let you know if I hear from them.

Note: I converted the base photo to B&W to make it easier to see.
