Why so much for shipping?

I was looking around eBay for old 7-up bottles. Most of them were fair priced IMO, but the shipping costs are outrageous! We're talking about almost $10 for shipping! Does it really cost that much for shipping ONE bottle, and if so, why? Just curious.
EDIT: D'oh! just saw the eBay part of the forum. Move this there if you want to.

No it doesn't, but now that Ebay takes part of the shipping costs most sellers have jacked up their shipping costs, I know that I have...

doesnt sound that outrageous,
it costs over $10 to ship a box USPS priority slightly more than a pound across the USA.
That doesnt even take into account bubble wrap, peanuts, and gas to the post office.
Or the cut of shipping fleabay steals.
