It's what you don't see that counts.....

    ground penetrating radar

I’ve personally used GPR for locating pits and can say with absolute certainty that they do work and quite effectively. We’ve scanned several areas for pits in asphalt, concrete and dirt, some of the ones we found lite up like a Christmas tree, others not. Cost on these things though is...

    3/4 Philly Dig

Nice dig but your really pushing the limits of safety by not opening up any hole to its full dimensions. A cave-in of the fill material in the the other portion of the hole can happen and if down that deep your chances of survival are not going to be good. Two friends were almost killed on...

    Black glass grave yard

You’ll definitely know it when you see one, they look so out of place and like they were just dropped. Gold doesn’t oxidize/tarnish it will really stand out amongst mud, rust, ashes or whatever. They’re so easy to miss and can easily hide in the littlest clumps of dirt.

    Black glass grave yard

Great photos & story Matt, It almost feels like I’m there! We love playing under buildings too. It’s been my experience that Gold Country sites of that age hold lots of coins. You may want to take a detector under there or sift for those little round yellow metal objects, their...

    last sunday

Lets try that again. I too have had some bad luck with terra cotta pipes running into pits but have gotton over that one. We dig everything if it's on an old enough property and some of my best pits have had theses things.

I've had some bad expierences with terra cotta pipes running into pit also but learned to get over it. Some of the best pits I've dug have had these things and usually they go quite deep.

    Baltimore Pontiled Pickle

I’m selling the “Wm. Bodmann†in American Bottle Auctions Aug.26th sale due to my current financial situation. It’s the only undamaged one known and is in unbelievable attic mint original condition. A spectacular bottle that defines the true meaning of a cathedral pickle. The mother of...

    brick lined privy

You guys are to funny arguing over something like this, get over it. There’s no substitute for experience and few others here have as much as Rick or have contributed to the hobby like he has. A few years ago in central S.F. I dug a huge bricked line privy for a big mansion...

    Small town Kentucky dig

The transite pipe hanging in mid air is either for water or sewer and likely passes through the lot to service adjoining properties. I’m assuming because it was left in place that it’s active. It’s brittle because it’s made with cement and can crack or break with the slightest...

    Small town Kentucky dig

Wow, I can’t believe anyone would think it’s okay to do this to someone’s property. It’s bs like this that stops diggers who do have respect for others property when owners hear about or see something like this.

Any privy diggers ever seen this before?

Years ago I dug a round six footer that was lined from top to bottom with clinker bricks. All the bricks were so twisted and distorted they must have had a hard time stacking them. The pit contained mostly 1870s material. It’s not un-common to find a brick lined pit like this that starts...

    Looking for spring steel probe?

Trunk rods make good probes if you can find them but your limited on the best diameter, length & strength and you better find a good welder. We use only the highest quality new materials available and build what we and many others believe is the best probe available. Check-em out hear at...

    SA Dig .... Busted !

That’s to good of a dig zone to just give up on that easy. Go talk to the head dude, do what you need to do. What do you have to loose by asking, what do you have to gain by not???. Take a couple of bottles to show him, explain what your doing & share your passion, assure him any holes you dig...
