    Hello from New Jersey Shore

The Cliffwood blob is a very scarce Middlesex County beer. Dates to 1895-1905.

    A.L. Sachtleben

They are not particularly rare. There is an almost identical bottle which has “Fred Bruno Successor to” added just above the script. It comes in a light green color which is pretty scarce.

Searching New Spots in Bergen County, NJ

Dug in Jersey City for years. Harsimus Cove was a great early dump location for about 3 years (now inaccessible). Dug some nice privies in older parts of the town but they were few and far between. Lots of empty (cleaned) holes. Newark was easier to dig and usually had better bottles. There...

    RARE Civil War Bottle Found!!

The one on ebay is definately a reproduction. They have a crudely tooled lip (the real ones either have a rolled lip or a more typical 19th century tooled lip), they have a terrible fake pontil (the real ones are either open pontil or smooth base) and the genuine examples usually don't have the...

dump near Green Village (Passaic river area) N.J.

Make absolutely sure you know whose property you are on and that you have permission. Much of that area is now part of Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and is actively patrolled by Department of the Interior law enforcement rangers. Do not !!!!! get caught digging bottles on Federal Refuge...

    Huge birthday present

It's actually a New Jersey water bottle. I remember the farm and spring were located very close to where New Brunswick Road, RT 22 and I-78 meet. I think it's either Pohatcong or Lopatcong Township just east of Alpha NJ.

new dump, question about a mold.

Neat piece, if you ever want to sell it, let me know. (PS look for the other half, it's got to be out there somewhere). These soapstone molds were used during the late 18th-early 19th century. Yours has cavities for several different sizes of ammunition including buck shot. I have seen many...

    best flea market/yardsale finds

I bought this pint POTTER & BODINE at an Estate Sale late on a Sunday afternoon just before it closed. Paid 6 dollars for it.

    substance on bottles

The opalization adhering to the bottle is harmless but once it seperates into flakes or dust and is inhaled into the lungs it can be harmful over a long period of time. Simple Chronic Silicosis is definately not something you ever want to get. It comes from prolonged exposure to silica dust...

ESSEX NJ BOTTLE LIST FOR WHEELAH

You asked me awhile back for a list of Essex bottles. My old computer was down so it took awhile to retrieve but here is a list of ESSEX COUNTY NJ Blobs & Hutches I had in my personal collection. This list does not include NEWARK but I can post it if you want it. You and others can use it for...

    SCARCE AQUA NJ BLOBS

Not really new but I thought the NJ collectors on this site might like to see a few scarce/rare aqua blobs to be on the lookout for. Aqua blobs tend to get short shrift because color has been all the rage for some time in the collecting world (local collecting is no exception) but some of the...

First additions to my Montclair bottle collection!

Old pic of a great day of digging in Philly

pa digger - Thanks for the great history of the Kohl bottle find. I really thought that the poletop example was the one we dug but obviously it isn't. Perhaps it is the repaired one you mentioned, I really don't know what happened to it after it left our hands. As an addition to your...

Potlids from Civil War Army Trashpit

VA is for Diggers - I detect too. That is how we found many of the huts we dug out. Below is a pic of some of the plates I dug in the Stafford Camp where most of these bottles were dug.
