    Archives?

Hello all! Went to review an old thread posted a few years ago but it seems to have disappeared. Is there an archive section here I'm missing? Thanks,Ray

    Backyard Dig

There had to be something buried around my house and we finally found a good place to dig. Been here about two years and dug a couple of test holes that turned up nothing. Philajdh was fooling around with my newly acquired metal detector when it went crazy about twenty steps from the back door.

    Old French Coin

This rolled out of the surface dirt while starting a test hole for a privy...encouraging! Google says 5cent 1799.

    CD 193?

Hello! Picked up this odd little guy at a yard sale and having little luck getting any info. Found a similar photo described as cd 193 but with no embossing. The example in the photo is embossed AM TEL & TEL CO very faintly. Thats a zippo lighter next to it for scale. Any thoughts from the...

    Few from the junk shop

The winter was too long and the price too cheap to pass on these. I liked the Dr Tobias "Venetian Liniment" and good 'ol Dr Jayme's. The Philly soda is a tooled crown destined for philajdh's shelf of bottles. Didnt have this varient of Mrs Winslows so what the heck...you know?

    Atlantic city Hutch

    Syrup Of Tar

Here's a pretty old guy purchased from baltbottles some time ago. Kind of snowed in today and playing with the camera. Also noticed no other posts in 'pontils only'? Guess not too many survived 'consumption'. Drinking compound syrup of tar sounds like a last resort. Syrup of tar? yuck!

    11/17/13 dig

Philajdh invited me to dig with the guys last sunday in wilmington. Of course I dropped everything and drove off without the camera scratcher and other gear! Nothing remarkable to show, but it was a nice day and we enjoyed the dig. Also havent tried to post in the new format...

    The Specialist

Many here may have read this cute little book from the 1920's. I just read it and thought it worthy of posting here. Lots of insight towards locating those elusive rural outhouses and just plain interesting. http://www.onegentleman.biz/Stories/The%20Outhouse%20Specialist.html Order up a...

    Raiders of the lost Privy

Hi Folks, Maybe someone with better computer skills could post the article printed in yesterdays ( 4/7/13) New York Times magazine titled "Raiders of the lost Privy". Meant to be touching, the author, Dorothy Spears, tells a tale of her boyfriends archaeologist mother destroying her back...

    3/4 Philly Dig

Good digging weather in Philly to dig an enormous hole. This pit was eight feet across and 14 feet deep. More to follow later. Just starting the thread.

    Salem NY Hutch

As requested, here it is philajdh. Pick it up when you can. This came from the local junk...eh excuse me, "Antique Shop". Only $8. Bunch more there.

    A common

Out woodcutting and nearly stepped on these. Ground is frozen but they pried out easy. Will go back when it warms up a bit. Kind of cool to find anything on the surface in Febuary!

    New point

At least one nice thing came from Sandi...found in the fresh gravel. Still has a decent edge!

    Water Bottles

Hey, A friend has 1/2 dozen of these and asked me if i knew age/ value. She's not selling, just curious. The biggest thing i've learned on this site is how little i know! Anyone have any thoughts? They are nice looking examples. One has a three digit phone# embossed. Photos are...

Anyone experiencing slow loading today and last night? Maybe its my machine....

    Digging for diamonds?

Ran into this artical...nice story! Dan Fagnan's friends think he's "a fruit loop" for panning for gold near his home in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, but when the amateur prospector recently scooped up a 1.22-carat diamond, his unusual hobby finally paid off. As Fagnan told the Pierce...

    Some new ones....

Hi Folks, Experienced an interesting phenomenon when making the mistake of looking around e-bay. The Brownstout seemed like a good gift idea for my son who leans toward philly sodas. However, i couldn't resist the temptation to bid on a few others...

    Site donation

Hi Folks, This site has been a valuable asset to me as a long time but uneducated collector. Many thanks to all of you who have been so kind as to respond to my sometimes bone-head postings. I have learned a great deal and see there is much more to learn. After the third try, I managed to...

    Stoneware foot warmer?
