Prehistoric sites should be protected but historic trash on private land is fair game.
The historic period has been well documented, but now that bottles are commanding big money archaeologists would rather go for the glory and dig these sites as opposed to the MUCH MORE IMPORTANT pre...
That is my forum, and yes my members said it. A private forum, where people can speak their minds, good or bad. What Moxie failed to mention was the fact that a digger from 'away" came in and destroyed a dump we have been quietly digging for 15 years. They travel 75 miles and come in huge...
Another deck sweeper just sold for $500. Check out this one, a different variant.

The Persian saddle flasks are old but they are not really valuable. Fifty bucks is about it and even that is generous. But I would not be surprised if these two sellers were having replicas blown.
Sirmarkw is back at it again with the "Deck Sweeper Boarding Weapon"...
I still have a problem with Marlena listing modern glass in the antique pre 1900 category. She knows darn well what they are.
Sirmarkw....he is a piece of work. I wonder how many other maritime reproductions he has listed.

What I don't like Ron is his general attitude about us bottle collectors (not just diggers) I don't know of any real archaeologist that respects bottle collectors. They won't admit it but they believe the collectors are just as guilty as the diggers because they are the ones that drive up the...
The point of the letter was not to one up him or see if he can slam me. I was simply writing to bitch about his one sided story. Most of what he wrote was jiberish blah, blah, blahhhh. By no means would I want to talk to him if I were digging there, that would be suicide. I've never seen...
I wrote a letter to the reporter...Here it is and then his response.

Eric,
As an avid bottle digger (with a college degree in Archaeology) I find your news story extremely one sided. That site along the river has been pounded by diggers since the...
I'm glad to see everyone agreeing on this one. It does not matter if you trespass or get permission, fill your holes or leave a mess. They don't care about diggers or treasure hunters, they want it all to themselves or left in the ground? When we dig bottles we ARE PRESERVING them for future...
Looks like you should have called me to join you for a night raid operation. [;)]
Sorry to hear about the heartbreaker Bram. Take solace in the fact that this proves there are MANY more out there
To everyone against covert digs......It's about saving bottles, not a good name for...
Nice find Bram, keep us posted. Sorry I missed you again this week, I ended up getting yesterday off and working today. Maybe we can hook up for another dig soon, before the freeze sets in. I'll bring the video camera. [:D]

Went out to a town dump that was capped in 1915 and NEVER dug. It is a deep one, 10' and still no sign of bottom. My digging buddies could not make it today...to bad because I got a pair of Dr. Langley's Root & Herb Bitters in AMBER!!!!!
Got some other stuff too, but...
There is a whole lota heartbreak there. Isn't it funny how you can dig a dump full of broken pontil shards then that one whole bottle is a 3 in 1 oil ???
