My nephew pick up a couple milks at an auction and I was wondering if they are common or rare. First is a pint embossed in a round slug plate Reeder Bros Dairy Shippensburg Pa. The second is embossed Funk's Grove Dairy Boonsboro Md. this one is a quart. Thanks for any info.
I just received a message from a guy on Ebay telling me I'm wrong to list my smooth base bottle as from the pontil era. I told him pontil and smooth base over lapped for a while. So while they over lapped what would you call this era ? Am I wrong to list this way ?
Blade and I got out 1 day last week and did a hole that we knew wouldn't go pontil. figured maybe late 1860's or 70's. Maybe get lucky and get some smooth base sodas. It was a big surprise when this popped up out of the layer. Definitely a late throw.
Here are 2 pontiled utilities we recently dug from a pit that dated around 1860. The 1 on the left looks iron pontiled and is a 4 piece mold the first I have ever seen. The 1 on the right is open pontil . Has anybody seen these before and any value ?
