Gene and I dug a 6-foot 1880s house pit this weekend. This was the second pit at this house, the first was 1900-1930s and basically sucked. This 1880-1900 pit had a few goodies in it. Here is the pit site.

Here I am in the pit. It was full of water from about 4 feet to the bottom. I need a haircut, bad [:D].

Here is the full haul, including the slickers which we don't keep.

Some of Gene's goodies. Here are a nice little sample whiskey barrel and a Gilt Edge Dressing.

Loving the digging in a white T shirt. It goes against all the digging odds.....gonna get dirty. Privies are the next lot to dig here. Hope to talk to ya sometime bout it. Could be better than dumps .

We each got a good local druggist from this pit. Here is Gene's, a 4 1/2" MAYES AT LEWISTOWN. This is only the second one of these I have seen (I have another one from a pit dig this past summer).

Here is my share of the keepers. My two favorites were a 4 1/8" MARTIN'S PHARMACY/ LEWISTOWN, PA and a Professor Low's Worm Syrup.

Last pic. A nice smaller Martin's. I now have two sizes of this bottle, plus a citrate and an earlier druggist from Martin's. We're into a new pit already, hopefully it will be a good one. Good luck to all of our fellow diggers! ~Jim

Thanks, Ben. Those old white T's are nice for hot days. After a few pit digs, they're more of a light brown color [:D]. I think you would love privy digging, I know I do. ~Jim
