Christin Closure, circa: 1875-1880, Occurs on 22 bottles, Invented by: Arthur Christin, American Patent: April 13, 1875, Number 161,863,
This stopper was an adaptation of the Gravitating closure. The variation was that the stopper itself was composed of a composite rubber material instead of the glass rod used in the Gravitating stopper. Also unlike the Gravitating it had an imbedded rubber ring in the lip of the bottle where the stopper wedged against creating the seal.
There is also one in between! You have the common 6 5/8 in. and the 8 in. versions. Then, there is like a 7 in. version that is seldom seen. I only know one person that has one. He says he has only seen a couple in his lifetime. I don't have one.
Nice bottle Captain. Those Christians are neat just for the oddity of them. The wedge stoppers they used are pretty cool too. Often the gasket that was inside the rim of the blob looks white-ish now.
