I have learned that the more dots, the stronger the snuff, but does the placement of the dots say anything about age or location? We don't have a one dot...maybe they didn't make snuff that 'weak'? All found in old deserted homesteads, creek beds, woods, around SE Texas over the years. Is there any particular value? We have one with a cork (not pictured). I have been using them as vases. Thanks for any info.

How did the makers of snuff gauge the strength of their products?

How did the makers of snuff gauge the strength of their products?
Good question! I really have no idea...maybe like cigarettes with unfiltered/filtered, light, ultra light, menthol, so they had stronger tobacco, less fillers, maybe different fineness of powder in the strongest snuff? Reading just now, I see that sneezing is an effect, the stronger the snuff, the more likely to sneeze...from wikipedia: "When sniffed, snuff often causes a sneeze, though this is often seen by snuff-takers as the sign of a beginner or amateur. This is not uncommon; however, the tendency to sneeze varies with the person and the particular snuff. Generally, drier snuffs are more likely to do this. For this reason, sellers of snuff often sell handkerchiefs." I am 100 percent speculating!
