After further investigation I could find no evidence of any machine made seams their are a few bubbles in the body.

Hi, Welcome. I'm sorry to welcome you and bring the not so good news but that is a reproduction. There were so many made it's tough to pinpoint but I'd guess 1950-70's, maybe something made for Sturbridge Village or other museum type thing. Even now there are reproductions being made using old methods like lip tooling, free blowing, punty rods etc.

The best education on these is to get that repop next to an authentic flask of similar mold and compare them long and hard. The next time it will be relatively easy to tell the difference.

Yeah, the biggest giveaway is the fake pontil mark. If it was real it would be a a jagged scar of broken glass. On the bright side, I'm sure it's worth more than $5!

Well Dow, I feel that you must have admired the bottle when you bought it. It makes seance to me to keep it. It will appeal to someone else in ten years or less for more. It already cost more than that to make. Email me and I will send you a newbie bottle collecting bottles description of what we look for. When you do that, I will tell make you an offer for your purchase if you want to sell it. I have picked up six or eight of these repose already, just for the HELL OF IT, I have a good place to display them in the sun. RED Matthews <bottlemysteries@yahoo.com>

Thanks for being interested in buying the bottle, but I'm not interested in selling. BTY I have much older American Eagle whiskey flask bottles which I will be posting in the near future. I thought all modern reproduction American Eagle bottles were 100% machine made which are obvious to tell. I remember in 1976 their were a lot of Centennial everything being made in celebration of our independence.

Yes, Lestoil and others were machine made that year especially but not exclusively. I cant see the "pontil" well enough to say it's a a fake one in your picture. Wheaton made their fake pontil very obvious and sunken but oddly shaped, others actually left a sharp scar because they did in fact attach a punty. Many variations and still much to consider.
