Are these jugs old or just nice modern look-a-likes?

I am thinking these may not be that old, but I would just appreciate someone else's input if possible.

They are quite heavy, which is one good thing about them. They are in nice condition and look to be turned on a pottery wheel. The squared-off handles make me wonder about their age.
The hole in the bottom is what makes me think they may not be old but was made as planters. Am I right or full of it?.

the hole in bottom makes me suggest 1920' - 30's planters for a courtyard or patio setting, or on a formal garden wall flanking an opening.
