Hi I bought this as a vase but now I'm wondering if it is a barber bottle that doesn't have a top...does anyone have info about this? Also it glows in uv...does that mean it is vaseline? thanks!

thanks for the answers...the only reason i asked is because Ruby Lane antiques had a picture of this exact bottle (and they called it a barber) with a spout stopper of some kind...problem was that even though the picture on search was the exact bottle I have, they must have sold it, because the item was not shown on the page, and the photo I clicked on to "show larger image" only was 1/2'' tall, so there was no info to be had...it was really the exact same decoration and color too...what's the chance they found a barber stopper for it?? I searched for replacement stoppers...and that is no easy feat!! Any other ideas would be welcome!! I also saw a ruby satin on selling on ebay, same size, different painting ,but exactly same bottle shape with same finish on neck and lip...but with a barber? as to what it is....

I am answering my own question...I just saw on the B.A.M. auction site is a yellow variant of this bottle...they are calling it a bulbous shape barber circa 1870s-1890's...so I'll go with it...theirs sold for $50 but it was also a rarer color than mine. Thanks for the input!! I've attached a pic of mine in uv...glows nicer than I can show.

It's a Barber bottle. I had several in some super colors several years ago. Some bring very good but many are in the $50 or so range. Most had a tall top on them I had a couple with pewter tops and a couple with tin and a couple with early Bakelight type plastic. It's a nice piece ! bob
