We have a guy in our club who was a lineman for the telephone company and he has this real sticky black tar that comes in a rope, and I just put 3 little 1/4" balls on the bottom and it sticks real well. I think the house will fall down before a bottle will!

The photo below is just a sampling of the tons of stuff scattered around the old foundation my brother and I discovered yesterday. We primarily picked up items that would help establish a date to the site. (Plus a few other odds and ends of interest). The earliest dated item was 1941, with the latest being 1948. Which is a prime date range for some really cool soda bottles. Providing of course that I eventually locate the dump, which I am confident must exist somewhere within a quarter-mile circumfrence. I grew up in the area, and the closest public dump to the site that I am aware of is a good seven miles away. And that particular dump closed sometime in the 1950s. So I guess only with time and more exploring around the vacinity will I ever know for sure. I plan to go back out there in couple of weeks and will report back here with my findings. But one thing is for certain - whoever lived and worked around there sure did drink a lot of 7up. There were broken shards of 7up bottles everywhere. All dated in the 1940s.

Foundation Site Artifacts 1941 thru 1948

~ SODA BOTTLE DETECTIVE WANTED ~

I'm trying to identify two of the soda bottle shards I picked up. The one on the left has a small leaf in the upper corner of the label. And the other one has a windmill. If you recogonize either of these two labels, please let me know. I've already looked through every book I have and couldn't find either one.

Thanks

Hey Morb ~

You're hired as my new "Super Soda Detective." It turns out that I actually have one of the Circle A bottles from Lamar, Colorado - 1949. But I didn't realize what the shard was until you identified it. I had no clue about the Mil-Kay windmill as I don't own one.

Thanks a million - but that was too easy. I will try and find something tougher next time.

Anyhoo ... That tells me there should be a pretty good variety of sodas around there someplace. Now all I have to do is locate that dang dump. But it could be just about anywhere in the vacinity of the old foundation. I will have to conduct a cork-screw search of the entire area and hopefully find it. And for being so helpful you get all the broken shards of glass I find. [;)]

Thanks again

Luckily I knew the bottles well, and I have spent much time in the local dump identifying shards in my bottler archeological research. When all you got is broken shard lemons you gotta find something good or you just don't bother going back. LOL!

Happy Thanksgiving

The scene below is of our San Diego county back country, and is just one of the many reasons I enjoy bottle hunting in the area so much. I hope all have a wonderful day today and are surrounded by family and friends just as I am.
Sincerely

~ Birth Announcement ~

Thanksgiving blessings come in many forms. My daughter had a c-section birth today of a six-weeks premature baby boy. His name is Colton Robert, and both he and my daughter are doing just fine. They live in another state, so it will be a while before I will be able to see them. The little guy weighs only 3 lbs 8 oz and is not much bigger than a 16 oz soda bottle. But he is breathing okay on his own without the need of an incubator or forced oxygen. They said the only special need he requires right now is a heating blanket. But the doctors did say he will need to stay in the ICU for at least thirty to forty-five days. My son-in-law is as proud as can be. This is he and my daughter's first child. I told them I was going to nickname the baby "Colt .45" [:D]

(Thank God for little miracles)
