Here he is, my new pride and joy, and the latest addition to my collection ...

Colton Robert

This is the very first photo of him, and was taken with a cell phone camera. They have him on oxygen now, but my daughter said he is doing great otherwise. His middle name is after me, and I can't wait to eventually spoil him rotten. It could be we are looking at a soda bottle collector in the making. But right now I think he could actually fit inside of a soda bottle. He is only about 15 inches long and weighs 3 lbs 8 oz.

I have been looking for an affordable copy of this book for a long time now. But since they often sell for $100.00+, I usually just let them go. But not today! I got the one below for ...

High Bid ... $39.26
S&H ........ $3.16
Total ....... $42.42

Whoo-hoo! I am as happy as a jaybird, and can't wait until it gets here.

ncbred and L C ~

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I spoke with my son-in-law just this morning and he said the "little squirt" is holding his own and doing just fine. My son-in-law also said he was able to place his wedding band over little Colton's foot and it slid clear up and over his ankle. Now that's what I call small in my book! [:D] (The photo is deceiving on how small he actually is).

During my current Hunting Season I "found" this amber 7up bottle on e-bay. I was watching it with interest, but when it went past the $100.00 mark it exceeded my budget. So needless to say my hunt for one continues. As most of us know by now, these 6 oz amber 7up's were only produced in San Diego, with the squat variations originating in Texas and elsewhere.

I post it here primarily to show what I consider to be a fair current value. I have only seen one example of this bottle that I would consider to be anything close to near-mint condition, and that one belongs to collector and author Cecil Munsey who lives here in San Diego county.

I am still hopeful of eventually unearthing one of these rare bottles during my field-hunts into the back country. But even if I do stumble onto one in the field, I am sure the label will be messed up as most of them are. But a person can always hope for a miracle and find a perfect one. Presently, I would settle for one without any labeling on it at all. At least that would be better than nothing as it stands now. [:D]

Hey Morb ... or anyone.

Here's another bottle shard I need some help identifying. I overlooked it the other day and just found it in my daypack. It is from the same area near that old foundation where I found the others.

I did some research on that site and was able to determine it was built sometime in the late 1920s or early 30s, with a confirmed first-hand account of it being in operation in 1937. Which is weird because the earliest piece of glass I found was dated 1941. So at present I really don't know what to make of the earlier dates. I plan to go back out there next week and hopefully will find the dump that should be around there somewhere.

Thanks

SPBOB

All I know about this shard is what you see. The zig-zag lines should connect it to something specific. My first thought was a "Heep Good" but it doesn't match up with the one I have. ???

I was editing and filing the 40+ photos from recent road-trip to Las Vegas and Arizona, and thought I would post a couple of the more interesting ones.

This first one is a place called Tom's Welding and is located in Barstow, Ca. which is about 100 miles southwest of Vegas on Interstate 15. Tom's is a working business, and owned by a guy who is said to have one of the largest collection of old signs in the world. If you ever travel through the area it is a must see if you enjoy this sort of thing. You may have to ask for directions, as it is about a mile north of town and slightly hard to find. Tom allows passerby's to take all the photos they want, but I've been told that not a single sign is for sale. He has a couple of Pit Bulls that guard the property at night. Not shown in this photo is his amazing collection of old Route 66 signs from all nine states that the highway passes through. They are the shield-shape type and have the glass marble-like reflectors.

Photo is from the roadside, with dozens of more signs within the fenced area and shop.

Here is one of my favorite shots that can be seen from the gravel parking lot. I would love to get my hands on one of those old street crossing signs. The Coca Cola's are great too, and he has lots more of them inside the shop area.
