You've never dug a 35 footer with 14 feet of pontil layer. You never know what you'll get until you dig. Finding stuff is great, but having fun is more important. I was on this dig and enjoyed the day with the guys and my son. The picture shown was Tom's picks. There was about 7 times that amount, but nothing great. I was able to add one to my locals collection.

Is that the before picture? nothing like X marks the spot if it was. There's just something fascinating about getting into pits under asphalt like some of you guys do. Just seems cool that this is probably the only historical/physical remains of a dwelling place long gone! I hate when an old place gets knocked down, (paved privydice, put up a parking lot......) Lucky 13 looked fun!

It seems that those round "depth charge" privies are pretty much glass poor. For the few bottles that seem to come from their bottom it hardly looks worth while to bother with them. Give me a "loader" 6' woodie any day.

We really don't find many loaded pits in this part of the country they liked to dip things well here. I think we dig about 20 pits that I consider bad for one that I consider good. I do agree with you, I like 6-8 foot deep woodlined pits best. But two of the best things I ever dug came out of brickliners. If its behind an early house I will usually dig it.

Great dig pics guys! What was capping that hole down below the asphalt layer?

Dirt and bricks many tons of it..... We dug it all out and filled it back in..... And fixed the asphalt in about 12 hours.

The bottle infront of the amber flask is: WYCKOFF&COs UNION BLUING. In front of the bluing bottle is a 12 sided Dr Wistar's.

How come men have to put up signs when they work, and women just do it?[:D]
